About the Event
Join YDS for ‘Biology meets Security: Unpacking the Interaction’! This is the first in a fascinating series of four events, and aims to provide attendees with a broader understanding of the emerging interrelation of security and biological warfare. This event is in conversation with Thom Dixon, Manager, National Security and Defence for Macquarie University, where he is currently completing his PhD. The event will be conducted as a one-on-one conversation, discussing how biology and security concerns intersect on both the offensive and defensive sides. The event will examine how non-state actors can implement elements of scientific biology, then in the second half, explore how governments can respond to potential attacks and try to prevent them. It will also look at the challenges terrorists face in implementing such technologies, followed by a brief Q&A.
